Tom Morello's guitar solo on Killing in the Name produces sounds that seem physically impossible from a guitar with no effects pedals other than a whammy. Morello uses toggle switches, kill switches, and feedback manipulation to create turntable scratches, robotic stutters, and electronic textures entirely from a Les Paul through a Marshall. The technique was entirely original and made Morello one of the most genuinely innovative guitarists in rock history.
