Joe Satriani's Satch Boogie from Surfing with the Alien is one of the most playful and technically dazzling instrumental guitar pieces in rock history. Satriani combines whammy bar acrobatics, legato runs, and a boogie shuffle groove into a piece that sounds both effortless and impossibly fast. Satriani taught guitar in Berkeley, California before his solo career — his students included Steve Vai, Kirk Hammett, and Larry LaLonde.
