Black Mirror, created by Charlie Brooker for Channel 4 (later Netflix), is a British anthology series in the tradition of The Twilight Zone that examines the dark side of technology and modern society. Each episode presents a self-contained story set in a near-future world where some aspect of current technology has been extended to its logical or nightmarish conclusion. The Season 3 episode 'San Junipero' — a love story set in a simulated afterlife — is one of the most acclaimed individual TV episodes ever made and won the Emmy for Outstanding Television Movie. The show's ability to make viewers feel genuinely disturbed about their own smartphone habits is its greatest achievement.
