Twin Peaks, created by David Lynch and Mark Frost for ABC, is the show that proved television could be art. The mystery of who killed Laura Palmer — a homecoming queen found dead on the shores of a small Washington logging town — drew 35 million viewers to its pilot, but Twin Peaks was always about something stranger and deeper: the darkness beneath the surface of American small-town life, the nature of evil, and the dream logic of the unconscious. The 2017 Showtime revival, Twin Peaks: The Return, is considered by many critics the greatest work David Lynch has ever produced in any medium.
