Statistics & Data Analysis

Mean: Sum divided by count. Sensitive to outliers.

Median: Middle value when sorted. Resistant to outliers.

Mode: Most frequent value.

Range: Max minus min.

Standard deviation: Measures spread. You won't calculate it, but understand: adding a constant to all values doesn't change SD. Multiplying all values by a constant multiplies SD by that constant.

Normal distribution:

68% within 1 SD of mean

95% within 2 SD of mean

99.7% within 3 SD of mean

Percentiles: The 75th percentile means 75% of values fall below this point.

Median = 50th percentile.

Q1 = 25th percentile. Q3 = 75th percentile.

Interquartile range (IQR) = Q3 - Q1

GRE favorite: Data interpretation sets with bar charts, pie charts, and tables. Read axis labels carefully.
