
You'll see short passages (1 paragraph) and long passages (2-4 paragraphs) with questions.
Question types:
Main idea: What is the passage primarily about?
Detail: According to the passage, which statement is true?
Inference: It can be inferred from the passage that...
Function: The author mentions X in order to...
Strengthen/Weaken: Which would most strengthen the author's argument?
Strategy for short passages: Read the whole thing carefully. It's only a paragraph.
Strategy for long passages: Read the first and last sentence of each paragraph. Get the structure. Then attack specific questions.
Rule: The answer is ALWAYS in the passage. If you're speculating or using outside knowledge, you're on the wrong track.
