Sentence Equivalence — Two Words, Same Meaning

You get one sentence with one blank. Pick TWO answer choices that both complete the sentence with the same overall meaning.

6 answer choices, pick exactly 2. No partial credit.

Strategy:

1. Read the sentence and predict a word for the blank

2. Look for a PAIR of words that are synonyms or near-synonyms

3. Both words must make the sentence mean roughly the same thing

Common trap: Two words that are synonyms but don't fit the sentence. The words must be synonyms AND make sense in context.

Another trap: Picking two words that individually work but create different meanings. The sentence must mean the same thing with either word inserted.

Tip: If you can identify synonym pairs among the 6 choices quickly, you can often narrow to the right pair without fully understanding every word.
