Blood glucose regulation is central to metabolic health. Understanding it is essential for preventing diabetes and managing energy levels.

The insulin mechanism:

  1. You eat carbohydrates
  2. Blood glucose rises
  3. Pancreas releases insulin
  4. Insulin signals cells to absorb glucose for energy or storage
  5. Blood glucose returns to normal

Insulin resistance: Cells stop responding to insulin signals. The pancreas produces more insulin to compensate. Eventually leads to type 2 diabetes.

What drives insulin resistance:

  • Excess body fat (especially visceral/abdominal)
  • Physical inactivity
  • Chronic overconsumption of refined carbs and sugars
  • Poor sleep
  • Chronic stress

Key insight: Type 2 diabetes is largely preventable and in many cases reversible through diet and exercise.
