Rule Substitution Questions

"Which rule, if substituted for rule 3, would have the same effect?"

This is one of the hardest question types. It asks you to find a rule that produces identical outcomes.

Strategy:

1. Understand what the original rule restricts

2. Check what deductions the original rule creates

3. The replacement rule must create the SAME restrictions and deductions

4. Test the replacement against any scenarios you've already worked out

Shortcut: If you've made thorough deductions during setup, you know what the rule accomplishes. Match that function.

Time warning: These typically appear as the last question in a game. If time is short, guess and move to the next game. One question isn't worth 3 minutes when other games have easier points.
