Point at Issue — Where Do They Disagree?

Two speakers present arguments. "Which best describes the point at issue?"

The test: Apply each answer to BOTH speakers. The correct answer must satisfy:

Speaker 1 would agree with it

Speaker 2 would disagree with it (or vice versa)

If either speaker has no opinion on the topic, it's wrong. Both speakers must commit to opposing positions.

Trap: An answer that one speaker addresses but the other never mentions. No opinion ≠ disagreement.

Related type — "Principle": Find the general rule that justifies a specific action or argument. The principle must apply to the specific situation described.
