Nightshades — The Controversial Avoidance

Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, bell peppers — all avoided.


Why: Extremely yin. Tropical origin. Contain alkaloids (solanine) that may cause joint inflammation and calcium depletion.


Counterargument: Mainstream nutrition considers them healthy. Sensitivity varies.


Practical: If you have joint pain or inflammation, eliminate for 3 weeks. Observe.

Replacements: Carrots/squash for tomato sauce. Turnips/parsnips for potatoes. Ginger for peppers.
