Conciseness — Shorter Is Almost Always Better

The SAT rewards clear, concise writing. If two choices are grammatically correct, pick the shorter one.

Wordy: "Due to the fact that it was raining..."

Concise: "Because it was raining..."

Wordy: "She is a person who enjoys reading."

Concise: "She enjoys reading."

Redundancy:

"End result" — just say "result"

"Past history" — just say "history"

"Advance planning" — just say "planning"

"Completely unanimous" — just say "unanimous"

SAT rule: Never add words that don't add meaning. If the shortest answer choice is grammatically correct and clear, it's probably right.
