Triangles — Beyond the Basics

Triangle inequality: Sum of any two sides must be greater than the third side.

Similar triangles: Same shape, different size. Corresponding sides are proportional.

If triangle ABC is similar to DEF, then AB/DE = BC/EF = AC/DF

Pythagorean triples (memorize):

3-4-5 (and multiples: 6-8-10, 9-12-15)

5-12-13

8-15-17

7-24-25

Exterior angle theorem: An exterior angle equals the sum of the two non-adjacent interior angles.

SAT favorite: Two triangles sharing a side or angle, requiring you to set up a proportion from similar triangles.
