Formation
Estar (conjugated) + present participle
Forming the Present Participle
- -AR verbs: drop -ar, add -ando — hablar → hablando, caminar → caminando
- -ER / -IR verbs: drop ending, add -iendo — comer → comiendo, vivir → viviendo
Irregular Participles
- leer → leyendo, ir → yendo, decir → diciendo, dormir → durmiendo
Example Sentences
- Estoy comiendo. — I am eating.
- Estamos estudiando español. — We are studying Spanish.
- ¿Qué estás haciendo? — What are you doing?
- Están durmiendo. — They are sleeping.
