The Spanish alphabet (el alfabeto) has 27 letters — the same 26 as English plus ñ. Spanish is almost entirely phonetic: you spell words the way you say them.

Key Differences from English
- H is always silent: hola = oh-la
- J sounds like English H: jardín = har-DEEN
- LL sounds like Y: llama = YA-ma
- Ñ sounds like NY: España = es-PAN-ya
- RR is a trilled double R: perro (dog)
