Ir means "to go" and is among the most useful verbs in Spanish. Its present tense forms look nothing like the infinitive — memorize them directly.
Present Tense

Ir + A + Place
- Voy a la escuela. — I am going to school.
- Vamos al mercado. — We are going to the market.
- ¿Adónde vas? — Where are you going?
Ir + A + Infinitive = Near Future
- Voy a comer. — I am going to eat.
- Va a llover. — It is going to rain.
- Vamos a estudiar. — We are going to study.
¡Vamos! = Let's go! — one of the most useful phrases you'll use.
