Eligibility — Who Qualifies?

Standard path — 5-year Green Card:

18+ years old

Permanent resident for 5 continuous years

Physically present in the US for 30 of the past 60 months

Good moral character

No deportation orders


Married to US citizen — 3-year path:

Married to and living with the same US citizen for 3 years

Spouse has been a citizen for 3 years

18+ years old


Good moral character means NO:

Felony convictions

Drug offenses

Habitual drunkenness

Lying to immigration officials

Failure to pay court-ordered child support or alimony


Birthright citizenship: Anyone born on US soil is automatically a citizen (14th Amendment). Children born abroad to US citizen parents may also qualify.
